Safeguarding policy

Everyone who takes part in our programs has the right to be safe. This sample policy shows how a safeguarding commitment could be set out.

Sample document for review

This is a sample safeguarding policy outline for the website template. It is not a complete policy and has not been reviewed by a safeguarding professional. Replace it with your organization's approved policy and local reporting contacts.

1. Our commitment

We are committed to protecting children and adults at risk from harm in all of our programs and activities. Safeguarding is the responsibility of every staff member, volunteer, trustee, and partner.

2. Who this policy applies to

  • Staff, volunteers, and trustees
  • Partner organizations delivering activities with us
  • Visitors, contractors, and anyone representing the organization

3. Safe practice

Roles involving children or adults at risk include:

  • Appropriate background checks before the role begins
  • Safeguarding training at induction and refresher training each year
  • A code of conduct that sets clear expectations for behaviour
  • Supervision arrangements so that no one works alone with a child where avoidable

4. Stories, photos, and consent

We only share stories and images with informed consent, and we never use images that could put someone at risk or that present people without dignity. Children's full names and locations are not published.

5. How to raise a concern

If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. To raise a concern with the organization, contact the designated safeguarding lead at hello@commongood.example (placeholder address).

All concerns are taken seriously, handled confidentially, and recorded.
